ATLANTA, GA (May 5, 2006)Pogo Pictures has added award-winning
director Angel Traverso to its creative roster.
"Angel is incredibly talented with a strong visual sense.
He is down to earth and brings an easygoing confidence to all that
he approaches," said company founder and director Steve Colby.
"We are happy to represent him and bring his talent to the
attention of the creative community."
Traverso was born and raised in New York City but is known primarily
for his work in the Latin American market. Following graduation
from film school at SUNY Purchase (where one of his teachers was
indie film director Hal Hartley), Traverso settled in Puerto Rico.
There he worked as an editor before signing as a director at Paradiso
Films in San Juan. In 2000, he launched his own production company,
X-Films, San Juan, which quickly became one of the market's leading
"I wanted to come back to the U.S.," Traverso explains,
"for personal reasons, but also because I want to direct in
the biggest advertising market and show people who maybe aren't
familiar with my work what I can do. I'm confident Pogo can help
me get there."
Pogo Executive Producer Lesley Harris added, "It was obvious
to me right away when I saw Angel's work that he has a very contemporary
look that will connect with agency creatives, both regionally and
nationally. I think a year from now a lot of people in the creative
community will be asking themselves how they have never heard of
Known for his ability to create complex, powerful images and story-telling
talents across an array of advertising categories, Traverso's reel
runs the gamut from the PBS "Choices," to the more hard-hitting
images that power his work for Bud Light and Coors Light, and the
quirky stories that drive his work for Suzuki. His PSA "Drunk"
for Nissan won a Silver Lion at Cannes in 1998.
"I see myself as someone that can create dramatic images,"
says Traverso. "I've been lucky so far because I've been able
to work in a lot of different genres but I'm definitely most comfortable
when I'm telling a story."
