Illustrated Films and YourACT
presents "The Woman's Angle"

* First meeting: September 13, 2006

The Woman's Angle is a short film project specifically designed for the new or established woman director that desires an opportunity to gain a fuller understanding and appreciation of her voice as a filmmaker.

Over the course of the project, participating filmmakers will create a short film (10-15 minutes in length, depending on the number of participants). These films will be publicly screened at YourACT's screening room circa June 1-3, 2007. Efforts will be made to get the films reviewed/publicized in the local press.

As a common theme, filmmakers are encouraged to explore the idea of the "male gaze," and use their films to contradict or comment upon the idea that movies (even women's films) have traditionally been presented from a male perspective, subtly imposing status quo gender roles upon its characters. A more detailed discussion of this theoretical concept (illustrated with film clips) will be presented in one of the early sessions.

At monthly meetings between September 2006 and May 2007, filmmakers will have the opportunity to workshop their scripts with the group, network, and discuss other issues related to independent filmmaking in Atlanta. These project development sessions are open to the filmmaking community, and are not exclusively for women/participating filmmakers.

There is no fee to participate in The Woman's Angle. We do require that each script be read and discussed at least once during one of the meetings. YourACT will be compensated by the ticket sales from the screenings. Filmmakers will retain all rights and control of their work. The project is open to everyone in the community, but the films screened at The Women's Angle must be directed by women.. No restrictions are imposed upon other cast/crew positions. The Women's Angle, Illustrated Films and YourACT do not provide cast, crew or financial assistance, but can be an invaluable resource in making contacts in the filmmaking community and building a solid team of collaborators.

Filmmakers will be expected to submit their finished film to the point producers by the deadline in order to be circulated for review and included in the final screenings.

The organizational meeting is being held September 13, 2006, 7:00 pm at YourACT. The schedule of monthly meeting dates/times will be available at that time.
